Don't stress about the 'silly' factor. Welsh speakers are generally delighted you're trying! If you're using AI for prep, focus on the VSO (Verb-Subject-Object) word order. Use the AI to generate ten basic sentences in English, then force yourself to translate them orally. If you struggle with the 'Dw i'n...' vs 'Rydw i'n...' structures, ask the AI to specifically highlight when to use the formal vs informal forms, as switching between them is a common learner trap that can sound jarring. Practice your 'll' and 'ch' sounds in isolation first; the AI won't hear your tongue position, so keep a mirror nearby to check your mouth shape.

I use a similar AI setup for 'mutation drills' specifically. The trick is to prompt the AI to force mutations based on prepositions like 'i' or 'o' and then ask it to correct you immediately if you miss a soft mutation. Don't worry about being perfect; even native speakers slip up with mutations in casual speech. My workflow: I record myself saying a sentence, transcribe it, and paste it into the AI to check if my 'treiglad meddal' (soft mutation) was applied correctly to the subsequent noun. It helps build the muscle memory so you aren't doing the mental gymnastics while mid-sentence next week.

I’ve tried a few AI tutors, and they tend to get a bit too 'textbook' with the Welsh, which sounds unnatural if you're heading to North Wales. My advice: ask your AI to strictly use 'Pobl Ifanc' (youth/colloquial) registers. A lot of apps teach you the formal written standard, which makes you sound like a 19th-century history book. Ask the AI to provide 'ffurfiau llafar' (spoken forms) like 'dach chi' instead of 'rydych chi'. Use it to drill common regional contractions—that's what will actually make you understood in the pub next week, not perfect grammar.
