Ditch the conjugation tables for now—you don't have time to memorize the complex Kannada inflection system. Since you're headed to Mysore, focus on 'functional chunks.' Learn the suffix '-beku' (want/need) and '-kodu' (give). Example: 'Coffee beku' or 'Auto alli hogabeku' (I need to go by auto). For your 20 minutes: spend 5 minutes on these fixed patterns, 10 minutes on audio shadowing (repeat after native clips), and 5 minutes on a rapid-fire AI prompt like: 'Act as a Mysore taxi driver, let's practice booking a ride.' Don't stress the retroflex 'ḷ' or 'ṇ' sounds yet; locals will appreciate the effort even if your accent isn't perfect.

If you're using an AI tutor, stop asking it to explain grammar—that's a trap. Use the 20 minutes for 'Input-Feedback-Correction' loops. Prompt the AI: 'Give me 5 Kannada phrases for ordering coffee in Mysore. I will write them to you, you correct my verb endings and honorifics.' Focus specifically on the 'nīvu' (formal) vs 'nīnu' (informal) distinction. Using 'nīnu' with a stranger in Mysore can sound aggressive or rude. If you mess up a verb ending, just note the correction and move on. Speed and confidence in the moment matter more than perfect syntax right now.

From someone who struggled with the script for months: ignore the Kannada script until after your trip. It’s a massive distraction for a 2-month timeline. Transliteration is your best friend. Prioritize the 'I want' and 'Where is' structures. A huge pitfall for learners is the Kannada SOV (Subject-Object-Verb) order; your brain will want to use English SVO, which sounds very unnatural. Practice saying 'Nānu auto-yalli hoguttēne' (I go in an auto). Use your 20 minutes to record yourself and play it back—you’ll notice your own retroflex errors faster than an app will catch them. Mysoreans are super friendly; even one sentence in Kannada will open doors.
