The V2 trap is usually because you're trying to translate sentence-by-sentence. When you start with 'Gisteren', your brain is subconsciously searching for 'I', but in Dutch, the verb must be the gatekeeper. Try the 'Verb-First Finger Tap' drill: hold up two fingers. When you start with a time adverb, literally tap your second finger the moment you say the verb. So: [Gisteren] (tap) [at] [ik] [naar de film]. If you don't tap your second finger, you haven't finished your syntax. It sounds silly, but it creates a physical anchor that helps override the English habit of putting the subject immediately after a time phrase.

I wouldn't over-rely on AI simulations for this. The pressure of a live call is different because you're trying to conjugate, handle separable verbs, AND manage V2 simultaneously. My advice: keep your sentences short. Don't start with complex time markers. If you want to say 'Tomorrow I go to the store', just say 'Ik ga morgen naar de winkel'. By putting the subject first, you dodge the V2 rule entirely. Once you feel comfortable with the flow, then start practicing fronting adverbials like 'Morgen ga ik naar de winkel'. Give yourself permission to use simpler structures while you build confidence; native speakers won't mind the slightly rigid word order half as much as they'd mind you stopping mid-sentence.

The mistake you're making is common—you're thinking of 'Gisteren' as the subject of the sentence in your mind, so the brain wants to shove the subject right behind it. To break this, memorize 'V2 pivots' as fixed chunks. Instead of learning individual words, practice phrases like 'Gisteren heb ik...', 'Morgen ga ik...', or 'Nu moet ik...'. By treating the time marker plus the verb as an inseparable unit, you stop having to make the conscious choice to flip the subject and verb. It makes 'Gisteren heb' and 'Morgen ga' feel like naturally occurring clusters. If you drill these ten chunks, your mouth will do the work before your brain even has a chance to panic.
